Coping With Stress: The Benefits of Mindfulness

October 13 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Room A112 A&B

Law school and the practice of law, while rewarding, are incredibly stressful. The pressures of Final Exams, class ranking, studying for the Bar, billable hours, internalizing your clients’ needs, serving the public, and numerous other demands can be debilitating and paralyzing to anyone.

Come learn some techniques for keeping grounded and calm in the face of such pressures, by using a technique called “mindfulness.” Mindfulness is “the intentional, accepting and non-judgmental focus of one’s attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations occurring in the present moment.”

Speakers will include Robert Thornhill, Program Director of the Alabama Lawyers Assistance Program; Dr. Mark Leggett, a licensed professional counselor affiliated with the UA Law School; UA Law Professors; and local legal practitioners. The panel will discuss how these techniques can be implemented quickly and how they can be helpful throughout your career.
