Commencement for the Class of 2013 will be held on May 4th at 5:00 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The commencement address will be given by Senior Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary for Regions Financial Corporation, Fournier “Boots” Gale, III. Mr. Gale serves as the Treasurer of the Law School Foundation. He is a former President of the Alabama State Bar and a previous recipient of the Sam W. Pipes Distinguished Alumnus award. Hooding of degree candidates will be conducted by Associate Professor of Law Heather Elliott, Ira Drayton Pruitt, Sr. Professor of Law Susan Lyons, and Bainbridge-Mims Professor of Law Pamela Pierson. Dean Randall will preside.

Public Interest Institute, Students
The Public Interest Institute Awards Ceremony has been rescheduled for Friday, April 12, 2013 at Noon. It will be held in the Hayes Conference Room (Room 344) as originally scheduled.
This year’s event will honor the 50th anniversary of many important civil rights events, and will feature Bill Baxley and Doug Jones as our honored guests and speakers. Both Mr. Baxley and Mr. Jones were instrumental in prosecuting the bombers in the 16th Street Baptist Church case.

On Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, renowned standing scholar and University of Alabama School of Law professor Heather Elliott will host a symposium, The Structure of Standing at 25.
The symposium is framed as a tribute to Judge William A. Fletcher of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the Ninth Circuit, whose groundbreaking article “The Structure of Standing” was published nearly 25 years ago.
