Voting Rights Law - LAW 623

Voting Rights Law considers the statutory and constitutional issues surrounding elections and election-related communications. In particular, the courses addresses the scope and meaning of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (as amended over the years), the Federal Election Campaign Act (as amended over the years), the jurisdiction and role of the Federal Election Commission, and the cnstitutional rules arising under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments that affect candidates, parties, and the conduct of primary and general elections. The course will consider both statutory and constitutional constraints on parties, candidates, elections, and electioneering.
