The University of Alabama School of Law Congratulates Law School Alumnus Tommy Wells (Class of 1975) on becoming President-Elect of the American Bar Association.
In addition to serving the ABA in so many ways, Tommy served for three years as Chair of the Board of the Metropolitan Birmingham YMCA.
Rather than hosting a cocktail party, The Law School honored Tommy and Jan Wells on August 11, 2007, by refurbishing the computer lab and installing much-needed new computers, software, and equipment at San Francisco’s Embarcadero YMCA. As well as serving the children of the community, the lab serves as the classroom for Youth Chance High School, a non-tuition private school operated continuously by the Embarcadero YMCA since 1977. Young people, ages 16-21, who have been referred by school principals, social workers, friends, and probation officers, find an environment in which they can learn and succeed. The curriculum emphasizes the GED, financial literacy and employment readiness training.
