Patty L. Nelson, the Continuing Legal Education Coordinator for the Law School, has received the Vergil Parks McKinley, Sr. Employee Award from The University of Alabama. She was nominated by Daniel Powell, Director of Continuing Legal Education and Associate Dean for Graduate Law Programs; Charles W. Gamble, Dean Emeritus and Henry Upson Sims Professor Emeritus of Law; and Bryan K. Fair, Thomas E. Skinner Professor of Law.
Nelson has served the Law School for over 33 years in various roles as a faculty assistant for legal publications, for all of the graduate degree programs, and in continuing legal education. Click here to read more about Nelson and her award.

Professor Luke Herrine was quoted in a MarketWatch article about Kamala Harris’ judgment against Corinthians College when she was Attorney General of California. He also discussed student loan forgiveness with CNBC, Business Insider, and MarketWatch.
Professor Susan Pace Hamill was quoted by the New York Times and an AL.com regarding IVF treatment in Alabama.

Professor Amber Polk presented her work-in-progress, Backsliding, at the Sixth Annual EnviroSchmooze hosted by Texas A&M Law School and at the 15th Annual Colloquium on Environmental Scholarship hosted by Vermont Law School.
Professor Shalini Bhargava Ray recently discussed her research on individualized guidance for the Administrative Conference in the United States with ACUS Chairman Andy Fois and Attorney Advisor Ben Birkhill on Between the Lines with ACUS, a radio show broadcast on the Federal News Network.
Professor Clare Ryan’s forthcoming article in the Cornell Law Review, The Public/Private Home, was featured as a recommended read on the Legal Theory Blog by Lawrence Solum. On September 13, she presented The Future of Frozen Embryos to the New York Area Family Law workshop. She also presented her forthcoming article, The Public/Private Home, to the Northeastern Law School faculty colloquium on September 18. On September 20, Ryan participated in the Society of American Law Teachers pedagogy conference hosted by Boston University School of Law.
Professor Daiquiri Steele was awarded the Michael J. Zimmer Award by the Colloquium on Scholarship in Employment and Labor Law. The award is given to “a rising scholar who values workplace justice and community and who has made significant contributions to the field of labor and employment law and scholarship.”
Professor Joyce Vance and former U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, interviewed the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, at the Texas Tribune Festival about his new book, On Heroism. She also did a live show for her podcast, #SistersInLaw, at the 92nd Street Y in New York City with Jill Wine-Banks, Barb McQuade, and Kimberly Atkins Stohr, her co-hosts for the podcast.
