On September 30, 2021, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will convene this year’s inaugural book club. We will be discussing Claudia Rankine’s lyric poem and collected essays – Citizen: An American Lyric (2014). Her work won the 2014 National Book Critics Circle Award for poetry. She is a past Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and a past recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant. She recently departed from her position as the Frederick Iseman Professor of Poetry at Yale to join the creative writing faculty at New York University. In 2020, she published her most recent work, Just Us: An American Conversation.
All students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend. The book is available in paperback, electronic, and audio formats through major retailers. Paradoxically, there is no “reading assignment” for the book club. You are welcome to join the discussion whether you
have read all, some, or none of the book.
