Office of Diversity and Inclusion Book Club
October 12 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
On October 21, 2021, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will convene this year’s second book club lunch. We will be discussing Sandra Cisneros’s novel – The House on Mango Street (1984). Her work won an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation and was a New York Times bestseller. She received a 2015 National Medal of Arts from the White House and was awarded a Ford Foundation Art of Change Fellowship in 2017. She has taught creative writing as a writer-in-residence at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Michigan. In 2015, she published a memoir, A House of My Own: Stories from My Life, which won the PEN Center USA Literary Award for Creative Nonfiction.
All students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend. The book is available in paperback, electronic, and audio formats through major retailers. As always, there is no “reading assignment” for the book club. You are welcome to join the discussion whether you have read all, some, or none of the book. We will meet in Room A112 on October 21, 2021, at noon. Lunch will be provided. Please email an RSVP to Dana Waid at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
