RETHEORIZING ACTIONABLE INJURIES IN CIVIL LAWSUITS INVOLVING TARGETED HATE SPEECH: HATE SPEECH AS DEGRADATION AND HUMILIATION

In Room A255 at Noon – Dr. Alexander Brown, Reader in Political and Legal Theory at the University of East Anglia, presents his new article titled “Retheorizing Actionable Injuries in Civil Lawsuits Involving Targeted Hate Speech: Hate Speech as Degradation and Humiliation.” Brown’s article proposes two new legal tests for degradation and humiliation as tort actions in cases of targeted hate speech.

This article will be published in Issue 9.1 of the Alabama Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Law Review.
