Education Law, Special Topics: Equal Education Opportunity - LAW 792

This course will explore issues of equity and access in American public education, particularly as it pertains to race, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and age. It will examine equal educational opportunity at the elementary & secondary level and in higher education.  Topics that will be discussed include school desegregation, disparate discipline based on race, race-based affirmative action, Title IX athletics, pregnant and parenting students, sexual harassment and sexual violence, English language learners, access to education for non-citizen students, provision of a free appropriate public education, and academic adjustments & auxiliary aids for students with disabilities.
