From the time that he was young, McDavid had an interest in water. As he grew older, he spent his time learning about coastal land use and fisheries. He worked as a professional mate on sport fishing boats. He researched the effect of surface trolling gear on the population of grouper in the Gulf of Mexico. He’s in the process of earning a Coast Guard License as a Master of a 100 Gross Ton Vessel. He also knows that attorneys are necessary to safeguard the Gulf.

Sara Beth knows the importance of words. She has studied multiple languages and learned how changing a single word can have dramatic consequences. She saw this first-hand when she worked in Spain as an English instructor for several international corporations. She also learned the importance of words to practicing attorneys. “I believe the job of a lawyer is to use words to defend, protect, and ensure justice in our communities.” After she graduates, she hopes to do just that.

Leroy grew up as the oldest of four on a dirt road in a rural Alabama town. He always did well in school…at least in regard to his studies. “I can remember my little sister coming home and telling me, ‘Brother, Mrs. Conway said that when you were in her class you were the smartest kid she had. But, you always got in trouble for talking too much.’ I couldn’t deny the talking, because it was true.”

Rewa graduated from Alabama with the desire to make things right and to protect society’s most vulnerable. Eight years ago, she went to work in Atlanta, Georgia at the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. After learning the ropes, she began working in the Trial Unit, where it would be her responsibility to see that the criminals in society were convicted.

When Blair came to Alabama, he didn’t really know what he wanted to do after graduation. It’s actually not unusual for an incoming student to be unsure of their post-graduation plans; it means that all options are open. By his third year, Blair knew two things about his career: he wanted to clerk for a federal judge, and he wanted to practice criminal law. He’s succeeded in both regards.
